Climate Change

Not exactly a bite-size topic but one that increasingly affects everyone.

As Borough Councillor and London Assembly Member I have passionately spoken out and highlighted environmental issues and I am dedicated to continuing this in the House. I am a member of a number of All-Party Parliamentary Groups in Westminster and have given my support to Early Day Motions which help to bring environmental issues in front of the Government and other decision makers. I have also supported the Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Private Members' Bill that is currently going through the House.

I believe that David Cameron is right and timely to bring these issues into the public arena. The Conservatives have a terrific track record for recycling across the country (24 of the top 35 councils who recycle have a Conservative majority) and of bringing good economic practice to environment issues. This is more sustainable than hurried, expensive and idealistic projects that do not last beyond the initial funding period. I am sure that the positive message, led by David, will help not only to encourage individuals to do their best, but will also spur a corporate social responsibility. Alongside the party, I am dedicated to achieving these aims, as efficiently and successfully as possible, without needless and invasive legislation.
